The first step of the Brunswick Ballmaster Open final was bowled on Saturday evening. The top 16 out of 32 players will continue their games on Sunday morning.
The first step of the finals featured three 300 point series. In the first series Linus Boström scored 300 points. Mark Jacobs also had a try but he missed two bowls on his last shot.
In the second series, year 2019 winner Joonas Jehkinen shot 300 and in the fourth series the perfect game was played by Carl Eklund from Sweden.
Jehkinen strongly dominated the first step of the final and was quite clearly the best player of the night. During the six series he managed to make a total score of 1505. The second best player in the first step was Samu Valaranta, year 2021 winner with 1460 points and the third was Jarno Lahti with 1445 points.
Jehkinen was satisfied with his game and especially with his ball reaction.
-Me and Parker Bohn opened the lane very well in rehearsal, so already in the first series I managed to play well and I got a good touch to the whole game, which led to a 300 in the second series, Jehkinen said.
He thinks that the oil pattern is easy and the key is the right reaction.
-Everybody can hit the pocket but the one with the best reaction will win, he continued.
On Sunday Joonas will chase for another BM victory.
-All the stones will be turned. Today I managed to play well, which gave me more touch for my game. I had one new ball drilled so at least my game is not about the missing equipment. One shot at a time! Jehu concluded.
To be in the top 16 in the final step 2 one had to make a total score of 1327. Santtu Juutilainen was the last to redeem a place in the final.
On Sunday the 16 best players from the final step 1 will join the game. The final step 2 will start on Sunday at 10 o’clock.
