Squad 9: Luukas Väänänen took the lead with a score 1566

The ninth set was targeted at super seniors (bowlers over 60 years old). The squad was full with 72 players. Of course there were also younger participants. The squad victory was taken by Luukas Väänänen with a score of 1566. He also made one 300 point series. Juho Rissanen also managed to make a 300 point series.

The frantic pace of results also kept going in the super senior squad. Luukas Väänänen arrived yesterday from the AIK tournament in Stockholm and already by now he was ready to attack on the Tali lanes. Väänänen found the game idea immediately in the start and the results were in line with it. He made 279 points in the opening game, followed by games 244 and 279. After three games he already had 802 points! The pace remained the same and in his fifth game he scored 300 points which is already the fourth 300 in the tournament when Juho Rissanen managed to score 300 points in his fourth game. Väänänen rose to the top, passing Joonas Jähi with a score of 1566.

Väänänen had studied the game idea yesterday via livestream.

-I watched how Mika Koivuniemi played yesterday and I started to play with a bit of the same idea myself.

Luukas kept up with the changes during the game.

-Changes had to be made to the playing position and the release, but they worked out well today.

On Friday we will see him again throwing the qualification when there is the national team players’ round.

-I will still play there but after that I should focus on the final competition, Väänänen was thinking.

Juho Rissanen had already tried the 300 point set earlier in the tournament but in that try two pins were left up on the last throw. Today he managed to make a strike at the last throw so he will be participating in the 300 extra repeat on Sunday. Rissanen threw a score of 1422 in six games which should secure him a place in the final.

Ahead of Rissanen in the set were Niko Oksanen with a score of 1476, which currently places him in fourth place in the tournament and last year’s winner Jesse Kallio with a score of 1433.

The best among the super seniors was Timo Raatikainen who shot a score of 1370. The second was Marko Luukkonen with a score of 1275 and the third was Timo’s brother Teemu Raatikainen with a score of 1250.
