Squad 8: Joonas Jähi to the lead, Mika Koivuniemi took 2000 €

On Monday’s second squad we finally saw 300 games made by two different players. The tournament lead was also changed when Joonas Jähi rolled a fantastic 1540 score.

The 8th squad started with several strikes in a row. Mika Koivuniemi and Joonas Jähi each made strikes one after the other. In addition to them Santtu Juutilainen made his way to the announcements after seven strikes in a row. Koivuniemi finished his set game first and pressed every throw deep into pocket. He became the first player this year to score 300 game in the tournament and he earned 2000€. A few minutes later Jähi also scored 300 game but because of Koivuniemi’s achievement Jähi has to settle for a roll-off among all of those who make 300 game during the tournament and have paid the 10 euros for 300xtra. All those bowlers will be playing for 3000€ at the end of the tournament.’

Jähi continued to play wonderful after his opening game and made great games one after another. Jähi’s scores were 300, 247, 223, 258, 259 and 253. This is how the tournament’s top score of 1540 was created. Jähi beat Markus Lahti by 17 points.

Joonas was naturally happy with the great result.
-Sami Heinilä gave me a tip on ball selection and I played better than in the previous squad I played, Joonas began.

For Jähi who is from Helsinki, Ballmaster has been a big thing throughout his career.
-This was already a big tournament as a junior with tough bowlers and a good atmosphere. I still don’t put pressure on myself about it.

Jähi had hip surgery in February last year and that has forced him to take a break from bowling.
-There is no more pain in my leg, so now all I have to do is perform. Let’s see where it will take me this year.

The second in the squad was Koivuniemi, who scored 1474, so he improved his position, even though he had already played a definite final result before today’s squad. Ani Juntunen, 1467 (hdp 48) and Santtu Juutilainen, 1415, also played over 1400 points.

The estimate for final limit after eight squads is 1397 to be among top38, and from squads 1-8 it is 1388.

The squad was also a special squad for senior bowlers. Naturally Koivuniemi was the best. Juutilainen was second and Kai Virtanen third with a score of 1318.

The tournament continues on Tuesday with two squads at 14 and 18 o´clock. The first is a special squad for super senior bowlers.
